Satellite Engineer (Dubai Government)

Job Description

Job Purpose

The Satellite Engineer is responsible for ensuring the maintenance, functionality, and availability of satellite systems, facilities, and solutions across GDMO. This includes managing satellite facilities such as uplink and downlink services, IPTV, mobile news gathering, and fiber links. The Satellite Engineer works closely with the Broadcast Engineer and Network Engineer to provide seamless engineering functionality aligned with GDMO’s strategic vision and requirements. The role requires strong teamwork skills and adherence to relevant business policies and procedures.

Key Focus Areas & Responsibilities

General Responsibilities

Collaborate with Engineering and IT teams to support GDMO’s engineering technology needs.
Provide key metrics and documentation to the Section Head – Engineering and IT/Unit Head to assist in producing monthly KPI reports.
Oversee the implementation of the strategic vision for Satellite Engineering, ensuring alignment with GDMO’s overall objectives.
Identify budget requirements for Satellite Engineering based on planned initiatives and strategic goals.

Satellite Engineering Activities

Maintain and operate satellite uplink facilities (fixed and mobile) to support GDMO’s operational requirements.
Manage satellite downlink facilities, including fixed and non-fixed services used within GDMO.
Operate and maintain satellite/baseband to IP gateways to ensure uninterrupted IPTV feed availability.
Support and maintain IPTV set-top boxes for GDMO office requirements.
Ensure the availability and functionality of mobile news gathering solutions, implementing necessary updates and modifications.
Oversee fiber and MPLS links, ensuring ongoing maintenance and operational stability.

Maintenance & Support Activities

Address unplanned operational issues in Engineering beyond routine or preventative maintenance.
Perform upgrades and modifications to satellite technology, systems, and facilities as required.
Provide first-level support for satellite-related issues and technical queries.
Maintain and support CAR/Data Center facilities, including CCUs, UPS systems, and Environmental Monitoring.

Technical Skills

Expert: Knowledge of the broadcast media industry.
Expert: Proficiency in satellite communication systems.
Proficient: Understanding of regulatory laws and procedures in the UAE.
Proficient: Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.
